Engadget posted a rather convincing looking ‘mini’ Nokia N97 yesterday. They go on to say, “The device is slightly smaller and slightly slimmer than the regular N97, and it’s also received a few subtle design changes, particularly on the back, where the camera has lost its sliding cover.”
The ‘Mini’ N97 doesnt make any business or logical sense to me. The current N97 has some brilliant features, all it needs is a better firmware.
What do you have to say about the Mini N97 ? like it ?

Nokia has not gotten the PR they wanted from the N97. I think it is great, but unfortunately journalists don’t mind being locked in to and abused by Apple, won’t use Skype over 3G, listen to fm-radio or do anything one can’t on that phone. “Firmware updated” is not the catchy slogan Nokia needs now. They also need to get the CPU running at full speed. Thus it makes perfect business sense to release a whole new model.
@Lars Gunther – N97 needed better testing before it was launched. Also, one of the key points of N97 is its internet capacity; the shape of Ovi store at the moment is a big set back to N97 development.
N97 still has a huge scope, i hope they are working on it !
I am one of the fortunate customers of N97 , released right across India with a lot of fun, fanfare and expectations. I purchased from priority dealer Mitali Electronics, Secunderabad vide voucher No 2641 dated 22/06/09 . IMEI No354225032038155.
Though I was using my trusted N73 for a long time as my personal device . I am a loyal to Nokia for so many years of over 5 years.
After using almost over one year using Blackberry Gold , I preferred to a device from Nokia stable , the world leader which will be much more user friendly and with a lots of fun and features . Nokia N97 has given the right platform to go for change . Though my decision was right at that point of time, my misfortunes has started from the day one.
The device has crashed about 6 to seven times from date of my purchase about one month back. I am having horrifying experiences with N97. The device is not to the expectations of the users, not really tested before releasing to the market, No great features more than Blackberry, the USP of our beloved Nokia of user friendly touch has gone, it is more complex than Blackberry, slow to connect on line with the features . It is prune to Virus attacks and no trusted security system is enabled in the device. Now it is stopped to function. All my contacts and data is difficult to retrieve.
I commend the prospective buyers Beware of this Product N97 which is certain to fail to match its peers!!

I think its pretty unbelievable that they have decided to make another N97.. a smaller version…
If i were to lose the smaller screen and the nav key on pull out keyboard.. i’d think i was going backwards rather than forwards…
All nokia needs to do is get the firmware right.. not make it smaller

I have to admit that the size is big and weight is high, but what could you expect to the N97 comsidering so much brilliant features packed in the particular phone. If the mini N97 is just a “mini” one in terms of size and weight, without improvements on the UI, camear and other featuers, then it makes no sense to me either.
Friends, I think N97 is a revolution in mobile industry, but its price is targeted for a certain class of people, and thus when nokia is trying to give similar features existing in N97 into the mini n97 at a much cheaper price, i think it must be encouraged! Not everyone can get a piece of N97 whereas Mini N97 will boost the sales of Nokia, Nokias marketing strategies will take Nokia one step ahead once again!
