You want to change the fonts in your N97? Great ! Here is an easy how-to.
Step 1. Select a font you like – try Smashing Magazine, SimplyTheBest, 1001freefonts & DaFont.
Step 2. Copy – paste the same font 3 times and rename it as :
s60snr.ttf
s60ssb.ttf
s60tsb.ttf
S60ZDIGI.ttf
Select only one font. Copy paste it 3 times so that you have the same file with 4 different names.
Step 3. Use USB to connect. Select ‘mass storage’
Step 4. Go to E:/Resource and create a folder ‘Fonts’ [ E:/Resource/Fonts ]
Step 5. Put the above fonts (all of them) in the folder E:/Resource/Fonts
Step 6. Restart. Done !
Step 7. In case you want to go back to the default font, just delete the font folder at E:/Resource/Fonts. Simple. 
Tried 2-3 fonts and i still prefer the default nokia font. Its a nice way to customise and once you get the perfect font i think all the effort would be worth it.

ahh. m sorry for such a late reply. m quite sure theres nothing more involved in changing fonts. but will redo it again later today and if theres anything i missed out will put it in.

Thanks, this tip works beautifully for me on my N97. The S60ZDIGI.ttf actually determines the font of the digital clock, so you can make it look much better than the default one.

it says access denied. How can I create a FOLDER IN e:\RESOURCE\FONTS IN MY NOIA N97?

for those who only work for digital clock
go to x-plore->tools->configuration
check show rom drives and u will see z drive
go to z->resources->Fonts
check the fonts name and rename the same to the font u want to use
follow the steps from here but only rename it, not using the name here
