Testing N97 Battery Part 2

December 24th, 2009

There has been loads of complaints about the N97 battery. Our last post – Nokia N97 Battery – received a lot of comments and so i thought of doing a log of how many hours a fully recharged N97 battery can last. Here are the results.

From 100% to 0% – Total time: 2 days 5 hours [53 hours]

Usage:
Internet: 1 hour 10 mins
Calls: 105 mins
Message(text): 65
Pics with flash on: 10
Video capture: 4 mins
Music with headfone: 1 hour
Various mobile apps: 30 mins

Even though this is relatively lite usage, 2 days plus is very good. Will check how it does with heavy usage and add it here sometime soon. Should be a minimum of 24+ hours.

N97 update: Memory Reorganiser 1.0

December 20th, 2009

Theres a new software update for N97 – Memory Reorganiser 1.0. Download it from Menu -> Applications -> Software Update. You need to run Memory reorganiser from Applications. It will auto remove itself after the first run.

I havent noticed any major improvement. To be fair to nokia, i dont run too many apps at one time. Guess others will notice the change. Let us know how you feel about the new update.

One of our twitter friends @netcitizen “Got 10 mb of C drive using the reorganizer” .. which is real good.

As always, follow us on twitter for all the latest updates – @nokian97blog :)

Convert videos for your N97

October 19th, 2009

Like most mobile phones, N97 doesnt support all the video formats available out there. but it does support MP4, and we gonna convert everything else to MP4.

Download : Videora Ipod Convertor [yes, ipod!]. Works like a charm. plus, its free.

This software “can convert all types of video files (avi, divx, xvid, flv, x264, vob, mpeg, DVD’s, YouTube, etc.) into the proper video formats (MPEG-4, H.264)” [from official website]

Select “iPod touch 3rd gen” as device. This is the profile list you get when you use the advanced power mode:
n97_convert_videos

For the best video quality (and longest conversion time), select MPEG-4 VGA 1024 kbps Stereo/128kbps Avi Sync. Time taken to convert a 58mb .avi file : 18 mins. The converted .mp4 file is 37mb.

Hope this helps. =)

How To: Change Font #N97

September 30th, 2009

You want to change the fonts in your N97? Great ! Here is an easy how-to.

Step 1. Select a font you like – try Smashing Magazine, SimplyTheBest, 1001freefonts & DaFont.

Step 2. Copy – paste the same font 3 times and rename it as :

s60snr.ttf
s60ssb.ttf
s60tsb.ttf
S60ZDIGI.ttf

Select only one font. Copy paste it 3 times so that you have the same file with 4 different names.

Step 3. Use USB to connect. Select ‘mass storage’

Step 4. Go to E:/Resource and create a folder ‘Fonts’ [ E:/Resource/Fonts ]

Step 5. Put the above fonts (all of them) in the folder E:/Resource/Fonts

Step 6. Restart. Done !

Step 7. In case you want to go back to the default font, just delete the font folder at E:/Resource/Fonts. Simple. :)

Tried 2-3 fonts and i still prefer the default nokia font. Its a nice way to customise and once you get the perfect font i think all the effort would be worth it.

Show us some of the fonts you tried. whats your fav? :)

Heres a screenshot. Font name: Gentium.
