There has been loads of complaints about the N97 battery. Our last post – Nokia N97 Battery – received a lot of comments and so i thought of doing a log of how many hours a fully recharged N97 battery can last. Here are the results.

From 100% to 0% – Total time: 2 days 5 hours [53 hours]

Usage:
Internet: 1 hour 10 mins
Calls: 105 mins
Message(text): 65
Pics with flash on: 10
Video capture: 4 mins
Music with headfone: 1 hour
Various mobile apps: 30 mins

Even though this is relatively lite usage, 2 days plus is very good. Will check how it does with heavy usage and add it here sometime soon. Should be a minimum of 24+ hours.

Some basic tips:

1. Close apps which are not required. makes your phone faster as well.

2. I know N97 has been promoted as an internet device, but staying online all the time drains your phone battery real fast. What can we do now? Dont stay connected online all the time. Avoid using PUSH for emails.

3. Auto dim your phone when in standby or use the side clicker.

Hope these helps. And folks please do share your comments on how you manage your n97 battery. How often do you recharge?

Step 7. In case you want to go back to the default font, just delete the font folder at E:/Resource/Fonts. Simple.

Today we are going to change our product code. This is also known as ‘debranding’, and this will enable us to get the latest firmware updates as and when Nokia releases them. We wont have to wait for our carrier ( vodafone, 3, etc) to approve the updates.

Before we start, we would like to remind you that changing product code may void your warranty. Although you can still go back to your original product code, in case you need to send it to nokia care.

The following procedure has been done successfully by many including me. I am quite confident there wont be a problem, but still you need to be aware of the risks.

Note: We take no responsibility if things dont go as expected. We have used it, and there has been many who have done it successfully. We would try our best to help you in case of any problem.

This is what you need to do.

Before we start, select your new product code. list here.

Create a FULL BACKUP of your phone.

Download Nemesis Service Suite. Install.

Connect your N97 using USB. Close Nokia PC suite.

Open Nemesis Service Suite

Click on the magnifying glass icon ( top right corner )

Click on ‘Phone info’ and then ‘Read’

The product code you now see can be edited. Replace it with the product code you selected earlier . Tick ‘enable’ (right of product code ) and then click on ‘write’.

DONE ! you just changed your product code. =) Yeah, its that easy.

Just to check if it has been done correctly, click on the ‘read’ tab .. you will now see your new product code.

Restart.

You are now ready to update to the latest firmware !

Heres something imp.

If at anytime, either after changing product code or after updating to the latest firmware, your phones side lock doesnt work or the hardware stops working; restart.

Even though i dont know a single person who needed this, but still for your info. If your N97 gets bricked, you can do a hard reset. Check our earlier post on how to do a hard reset. And then restore your phone from the backup you have taken in step 1.

New major N97 firmware update coming up in october. Its got kinetic scrolling and loads of other changes. excited. =)

Big thanks to richardhula and Amir of n97fanatics.com. Have a look at their alternate way of debranding N97. Even though its a lot of steps, but if this doesnt work, you can surely give that a try.

Waiting for your comments

One thing which am sure you must have faced with the release of new firmware updates is its unavailability in many parts of this planet. Apparently its not Nokias fault that everyone doesnt get the firmware update at the same time.

From Nokia FAQ:

Please note that your mobile service provider, operator, or carrier may not have approved the latest Nokia device firmware available.

Nokia produces many different variants of each product (for different countries and languages) and not all variants have the latest Nokia device firmware. It is our priority to update all variants as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any delay. New software may become available at a later date, however, so please check back soon.

The best thing you can do is go to Nokia Softwate Update Checker and check for your device specific updates. Mostly you will get the new firmware after 7-10 days of its release.
