Operators refuse Nokia-Skype partnership
Mobile operators O2 and Orange may refuse to offer Nokia’s N97 handset unless the phone manufacturer removes the preinstalled Skype software.
According to Mobile Today, an unnamed source at one of the operators said: “This is another example of them trying to build an ecosystem that is all about Nokia and reduces the operator to a dumb pipe”.
Nokia announced last month that it will install the VoIP software onto handsets and integrate it into the phone’s address book, giving users the option to contact friends and colleagues either on their regular phone number or by using their Skype username.

Nokia teams up with Skype for N97

Update: Skype for N97 is out now. 
Skype and Nokia said today at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that the VoIP calling service will come embedded in Nokia devices. The world’s largest mobile phone maker will release its first Skype-enabled device, Nokia N97, later this year around June.
Last month Skype debuted a new version of its Skype Lite mobile client for Android. The Google mobile platform joined Windows Mobile and the Symbian OS from Nokia in supporting Skype’s VoIP service.
The N97 will be the first Nokia device to come with Skype embedded out of the box. In addition to allow free inter-Skype calls and low-cost calls outside the Skype network, the software will also offer instant messaging and a “presence” app that displays users’ current status.

Nokia N97 to hit stores June 2009 !
At the 2009 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, Nokia announced that its Nokia N97 flagship will be in stores in June 2009. The Nokia N97 features a large 3.5″ NHD (640×360 pixels) resolution touchscreen display, with haptic feedback.
Nokia first announced the N97 in December at the 2008 Nokia World event, also in Barcelona, Spain, but only specified that it would ship in the first half of 2009. June is the last month in the first half of the year.
